St. Teresa of Jesus de Los Andes – (1900-1920)

Born July 13th, 1900 at Santiago, Chile as Juanita Fernandez Solar. Devoted to Christ from a very young age, she entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery at Los Andes on May 7th, 1919. There she was given the religious name of Teresa of Jesus. She died on April 12th, 1920, of the following year at the age of 19, having made her religious profession as a Carmelite. A model for young people, Teresa was beatified April 3, 1987 in Santiago, Chile, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on March 21st, 1993. She was the first Chilean to be beatified or canonized.
